Ripe mangoes are tropical fruits and may be used for stewed fruits, fruit jam, fruitcakes and many other standard fruit applications. Some of its medicinal relevance includes treatment of diabetes mellitus, cough, diarrhea, and hemorrhoids. Various biological activities including antidiarrheal, anti-Salmonella, immune-modulatory and antiviral have been described for M. indica species.
With regard to studies on essential oil, seven chemotypes of mango species growing in various parts of the world have been investigated. The antioxidant compounds in mango peel fibres were reported to have beneficial effects on health in high dietary fiber diets.
